Conference overview

Date of the conference: 8-9 April 2013.

The South American region has a vast experience in energetic integration. However, not every energy source is traded easily, and energy commerce is not as dynamic and widespread as natural resources and infrastructure would allow to. Securing energy supply for all our communities is certainly one of the most important challenges we are expected to face in the future. Countries have developed several integration institutions in order to invigorate economic, cultural, and social relations among each other. The creation of a strong South American community lays on some strategic issues as energy access for all it members. The 2013 ELAEE in Uruguay will debate on how to allocate our region´s energetic resources in a heterogeneous local demand.

The 4th ELAEE will also concentrate on the debate about how renewable energies find the way out from government good intentions, political consensus and social support. Which is the next generation of regulatory measures that can ensure a sustainable development of that source? Are they able to internalize costs and risks of other energy nonrenewable energy sources?

Who should attend?

The conference will bring together energy professionals from the academia, policy makers, non-governmental organizations and the private sector:

  • Executives from energy companies;
  • Government officials from energy and environment planning and regulation institutions;
  • Members of non-governmental energy and environmental agencies;
  • Energy specialists from universities and research institutions;
  • Energy policy analysts;
  • Energy market analysts;
  • Energy consultants;
  • Environmental specialists;
  • Energy journalists.
